 THE CULT of TRUMP

(formerly the Grand Old Party)


While the efforts to reduce the Grand Old Party to Cult status happened shortly after Jan. 20, 2017, it did not gain complete certification until Jan. 6, 2021.  That day, the despicable and unprecedented insurrection on our Capitol, brought the disgusting cult into clear focus!

Let it be known that today the GOP no longer exists but in a handful of Republicans in Washington D.C. and around the country.  The latest poll shows us that 70% of Republican voters believe the 2020 presidential election was stolen from Donald J. Trump.  We can, however, only assume that those who answered the poll question actually told the questioners the truth - or told what they thought would enrage America the most.  We must remember that truth is but a fleeting word to most Republicans these days. They have lived with Trump's versions of the truth for more than four years!

Reducing the GOP to Cult status is harsh.  We must first understand what a Cult is:  "A system of veneration and devotion directed toward a particular figure or object.  A practice regarded by others as strange or sinister.  A misplaced or excessive admiration for a particular person or thing."

It can't be much clearer than that!  We see elected officials in the Republican Party who are otherwise intelligent individuals, but they have placed themselves at the service of a man called  Trump, to the detriment of our government, our constitution, and our democracy. 

That, alone, designates them as a Cult.

A Day for a little Levity. . .

Confession of a   Social Climber Before I cash in my chips and curl up my toes, I need to confess to a terrible crime. For more than 86 years I have been a terrible liar about an important moment in of my life. As everyone who knows me is aware, I have always said my home town was Fort Benton. But, I hope everyone will find a way to forgive me for that terrible fib. I admit I was a social climber from birth. I wanted the world to know I was from a large city. When I was born, my parents and and older brother lived in the beautiful town of Virgelle, Montana. We also had a farm across the river from Virgelle and south about five miles on top of the river breaks. We lived there for about three years and then moved back to the farm.
